Level 1 Learn-to-Swim - 221201

Level 1 - Introduction to basic skills as the foundation for future skills and the development of water competency (the basic minimum skills needed for water safety). It is common for children to participate in several sessions of Level 1 before they successfully demonstrate each skill.
Recommended for ages 6-12
Milestones:
o Entering the water independently using the ramp, steps or side.
o Traveling at least 5 yards, bobbing 5 times and then safely exiting the water.
o Opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged object.
o Gliding on front with assistance at least 2 body lengths.
o Rolling to a back float for 5 seconds with assistance.
o Recovering to a vertical position with assistance.
o Combined arm and leg actions on front and back with assistance.
o Alternating and simultaneous arm and leg actions on front and back with assistance.

Level 2 Learn-to-Swim - 221202

Level 2 - Begin to perform skills at a slightly more advanced level than level 1 and begin gaining rudimentary propulsive skills on both the front and the back. This level marks the beginning of independent aquatic locomotion skills.
Recommended for ages 6-12
Milestones:
o Stepping from the side into chest-deep water.
o Fully submerging and holding breath.
o Pushing off the bottom, moving into a treading or floating position for at least 15 seconds, swimming on front and/ or back for 5 body lengths and then exiting the water.
o Moving into a back float for 15 seconds, rolling to front and then recovering to a vertical position.
o Pushing off and swimming using combined arm and leg actions on front for 5 body lengths, rolling to back, floating for 15 seconds, rolling to the front and then continue swimming for 5 body lengths.

Level 3 Learn-to-Swim - 221203

Level 3 - Learn to swim the front crawl and elementary backstroke at rudimentary levels, introduction to the scissors and dolphin kicks, learn the survival float and increases the time duration for treading water, learn the rules for headfirst entries and begin to learn to enter the water headfirst from a seated position at poolside (if the water is 9 feet deep or deeper).
Recommended for ages 6-12
Milestones:
o Flutter, scissors, breaststroke and dolphin kicks.
o Jumping into deep water from the side, recovering to the surface, maintaining position by treading or floating for 1 minute, rotating a full turn and then turning as necessary to orient to the exit point.
o Swimming the front crawl and/or elementary backstroke for 25 yards and then exiting the water.
o Pushing off in a streamlined position, swimming the front crawl for 15 yards, changing position and direction, swimming the elementary backstroke for 15 yards and then exiting the water.

School is out for the holiday season so let's get together and enjoy winter break! This camp is action packed with ice skating, swimming, climbing, gym games, crafts, cooking and more. FLAG FOOTBALL - 224900

Are you ready for some flag football? The glenwood springs recreation department hosts an after school program to introduce aspiring athletes to the fundamentals of football through non-contact play. This is a non-competitive, non-travel program and serves as a great introduction to football basics before participation in a tackle program. Areas of focus include passing, offense, defense, stance and much more. This class is for 1st-3rd grraders.

YOUTH HOOPS - 231100

This program promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, equal participation, skill development, personal development and, of course, fun. The 3rd & 4th graders will be combined to form a division, as will the 5th & 6th graders. Boys and girls are separated into different divisions. Each team is assigned a volunteer coach. Teams practice one to two times per week, play roughly six games and end the season with a tournament. Practice day, time and location depends upon volunteer coaches and gym availability. Practices and games are 1 hour in length and are scheduled during the week; 4 pm or later Mon - Thur.
